About

About us:

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.”
– Nelson Mandela

Engineers Without Borders (EWB) is a global movement comprised of professional engineers,
students, foreign aid workers, and other community based supporters. EWB Canada aims to promote and apply the principle applications of engineering to improve the livelihoods of those living under rural conditions and developing communities.

EWB SFU is a school-wide chapter that aims to promote these values and guidelines to our community and abroad. We focus on promoting education through various workshops and outreach programs, volunteering through venture opportunities, and fundraising for our junior fellowship program and the EWB national office.

Since we are a newly established chapter, our main goal is to grow. This includes introducing new and passionate members, receiving advice from other EWB chapters across Canada, and establishing the chapter from the ground up. Once we’ve finished with this building process, we want to share the passionate world of EWB with aspiring SFU students.

As a team, we would love to focus on the role EWB plays in developing communities and how the chapter can fully help. This can be done through the various workshops, events, and venture opportunities that we’ve planned. Finally, we’d love to introduce the Global Engineering Certificate to our school’s curriculum, which would benefit the chapter’s influence on the school’s engineering program as a whole.

It’s important to understand that EWB is not only restricted to only engineering students; all student faculties can be involved. We strongly believe that everyone can contribute to helping rural development and eradicating global poverty. We encourage innovation and hopeful ideas from different individuals and their past experiences and interests. If you have a passion for humanitarian aid and the fight against worldwide poverty, please
contact us. We’d love to have you on our team!
